It is so exciting that @rozsavage will be championing The Climate and Nature Bill in the House of Commons. This has been the campaign of @zerohour_uk since 2020 . We worked with Zero Hour earlier this year to create the ‘ToadWatch’ film for Earth Day 2024 - Celebrating Nature and focusing on the benefits of the #CANBill. Now that Roz Savage has chosen this campaign for her Private Members Bill it will get its second reading in Parliament on Friday, January 24th. Please urge your local MP to support it.

SHELTER - THE CREATIVE PROCESS
Proper Good’s Ben and Matt have written a short article about the creative process behind ‘The People’s Manifesto’ - our Legacy ad for @sheltercharity.

‘We decided to create a film that showed our audience as passionate, energetic and, yes, pretty angry people who still wanted to make the world a better place.
There was to be no tear jerking or wringing of hands. This was a rebel yell and ultimately a positive and uplifting call to take action, an opportunity to leave an enduring, personal legacy by helping to eradicate homelessness.’

Congratulations to @studiosaar.design who have been shortlisted for @dezeen Emerging Architect of the Year.
We’re proud to have been involved in one of Studio Saar’s recent projects, the ‘Apartment Store’ - a re-imagining of the former Debenhams store in Taunton. @studiosaar.design and @landstory looked at transforming the Art Deco building from a retail space to a living, working, social hub. 7 years ago Natalie and her young daughter were made homeless: “it was a really dark moment...”I’ve never felt so alone”

A call from @sheltercharity changed everything.

“It was like someone putting a massive warm blanket around me and saying ‘it’s ok, we’ve got you. You’re not alone and we will be there beside you every step of the way’.”

“For me they were the light at the end of the tunnel”

Today Natalie and her daughter have a secure home: “it’s worth living, it’s worth being alive”

Today is World Homelessness Day - a day to reflect on the urgent need for change and the realities faced by those experiencing homelessness.

The figures are shocking- recent Shelter research found that 1 in 78 children are growing up homeless in England.

Behind every stat is a story like Natalie’s.

As a country we need to create a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Thank you for all the lovely comments about our lectern in last week’s post….so we thought we’d share more about the inspiration behind them, initial sketches and the four finished pieces that featured in our ‘People’s Manifesto campaign for @sheltercharity - they’re such works of art!
The lecterns were our Creative Director, @mattgcole’s idea and formed part of our initial pitch to @sheltercharity. Here, Matt talks through the significance of the lecterns:

‘Politicians have a history of saying a lot but doing very little especially when it has come to homelessness. The idea of lampooning the hypocrisy of successive Prime Ministers each having bespoke lecterns designed at great expense from behind which they deliver empty promises seemed like an appropriate, visual anchor point and adds a bit of wit, to a film which is asking regular people to take action where politicians have failed. The fact that these lecterns appear in rather incongruous situations where our protagonists are really just going about their daily lives while taking action against homelessness serves to highlight the pomposity and ineffectuality of Government. Basically we’re saying “look we can have lecterns too but, unlike you, we’re going to get stuff done”.’
